A comprehensive eye exam should include a thorough discussion of your symptoms, your general health and your eye health history, a brief neurologic evaluation, measurement of your glasses prescription and eye shape, measurement of your eye pressure (tonometry) as well as examination of the external and internal eye structures.

A thorough eye examination can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the complexity of the eye problems and the number of symptoms you may have. You may require eye drops that may affect your vision, so plan accordingly.
