Refractive Surgery Options:

ALL-LASIK  LASIK (Laser in situ keratomileusis)

The Ziemer FDA aproved FEMTO LDV laser is used to create the flap.  The excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea with a tremendous amount of precision, control and safety.  The laser vision correction is performed under a protective layer of corneal tissue (the flap).  As a result, there is less surface area to heal, less risk of scarring, less risk of corneal haze, less postoperative discomfort and quicker recovery (about 24 hours for most patients).

LASEK or Advanced Surface Ablation

The excimer laser is applied to the cornea without first creating a corneal flap.  This is a variation of PRK (Photo-Refractive Keratectomy), the oldest laser vision correction procedure.  ASA (Advanced Surface Ablation) is for patients with thin, very steep or flat corneas as well as some corneal dystrophies and for the patient that is uncomfortable with the use of a “blade” to create the flap.

Custom Wavefront LASIK or ASA

Custom LASIK is a procedure that involves the use of a wavefront analyzer and enables your surgeon to customize the conventional LASIK procedure to your individual eyes.  This customized procedure can result in patients seeing clearer and sharper than ever before.

Clinical studies have shown that Custom LASIK can improve not only what you can see but how well you can see it.  In the past, all vision was measured using a standard vision chart.  If you could see the letters, the doctor would proclaim your vision as a number, such as 20/20, 20/100, etc.  But now, with Custom LASIK, doctors are able to focus on the quantity and quality of your vision.  Many patients who have had Custom LASIK are reporting being able to see clearer than ever before.  It is as if someone had taken an ink pad and freshly stamped each letter on the vision chart in bold black letters.

Phakic IOL – Verisyse

For very nearsighted patients – this lens is placed behind your cornea.  Your natural lens is left in the eye.  This is an outpatient treatment, and only one eye is treated at a time.

Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)

An implantable contact lens that is surgically inserted into the eye in an outpatient surgery center.  This is an outpatient treatment, and only one eye is treated at a time.

NLR (Natural Lens Replacement)

Mutlifocal IOL (ReZoom or ReSTOR– www.ReZoomIOL.com, www.acrysofrestor.com) or Accommodative IOL (crystalens page)

For patients over 55 years with some evidence of lens changes (early cataract), all refractive error ranges.
